On 24 March, astudy visit was organized at the STAR*Facility Centre of the University of Foggia within the framework of the 2B-Blue Project. The visit focused on the regenerative Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) pilot plant developed under the BIOBASED Project. The study visit gathered representatives from research institutions and private sector partners, including the Albanian Center for Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development (ACEPSD), Alb-Adriatico 2013, and CNR-IRBIM together with University of Foggia. The main focus of the visit was to observe and analyse the operational aspects of regenerative IMTA systems integrating macroalgae (Gracilaria gracilis) with shellfish production, specificallymussels and oysters. The visit facilitated knowledge exchange on innovative aquaculture solutions and strengthened collaboration among Mediterranean stakeholders involved in sustainable blue economy initiatives.

The study visit to the regenerative IMTA pilot plant at theUniversity of Foggia represented a valuable opportunity for knowledge exchange and collaboration among project partners participating in the 2B-Blue Project. The activity successfully demonstrated the feasibility and benefits of integrating macroalgae production with shellfish cultivation within regenerative IMTA systems. Participants gained practical insights into system design, species integration, and environmental sustainability practices. Overall, the visit
strengthened institutional collaboration, enhanced technical capacity, and contributed to the promotion of sustainable aquaculture models in the Adriatic region. The experience supports the long-term objective of fostering innovation, resilience, and economic opportunities within the blue economy sector.
